Earth’s Prisoner

Osprey wheels above
I watch as he soars
Floating on the whistling spring wind
Loftily floating above the pack string below
Ruler of his sun kissed sky

The same wind stings & bites me with disdain
Bound to the earth to live among a world closed in
To creep & crawl along the trail
How I wish to soar upon the sea blue sky
To be free from the dust ridden ground

Instead of soaring I crawl along at a my slug’s pace
The smell of sweat & leather filling my nose
Instead of the quiet of the sky
The shuffle & groan from the mules behind fills my ears
I watch the sky king tip his wings & disappear over the rise.
