Underground

Down in the depths
Where the water runs steady
A rain forest of mud and wire
Where the falling trees are rock slabs
And everyone hears them land
And wonders if they crushed dirt and rock
Or blood and bone

Down in the dark
Lights flicker and fade
Passing fireflies
Flitting around endless tunnels
And rabbit warrens of rock
That loop back and around

Down at the bottom
The world turns different
The sun doesn’t tell the time
And the smell of bologna and emulsion
Mix together in unison

Bahahahahaha. I still laugh out loud when I think about that day. Best moment at the mine, hands down.
